What's behind the name
Holly's Version
This is where Sree and I got married:
You may have to zoom in to see it…
A little more…
There it is! It’s a tiny gazebo in the middle of a woodsy neighborhood in Eureka Springs, AR. We eloped there in March of 2016, before we had our actual wedding in April. We had hired a minister and when we got into town on the big day, we called her to find out where we were supposed to meet. She told us what road to turn on and explained to us that over the years as the road was built and added onto, it kept changing names at every twist and turn, so just follow the yellow line until we see the spot.
We did as she said, found the gazebo, got married, and adopted the phrase “follow the yellow line” as our own. It actually comes in pretty handy when we’re navigating on road trips, but it also has come to represent both our love of traveling together and the “come what may” attitude that we try to have in life. You never know what lies ahead, so the best you can do is just get behind the wheel and follow the yellow line.
Sree's Version
This is the story behind why we decided to call our blog "Follow the Yellow Line."
Our wedding was a bit complicated. We had one wedding was more of an elopement, with no guests, and another, more traditional one later. For our elopement, we found this lady in Eureka Springs, AR, who was a state ordained minister and married people for 50 bucks (I know we're cheap).
She told us to meet her at 5:10 P.M. at this gazebo on a hill in the pretty town of Eureka Springs. She said "Just turn right on to this street and follow the yellow line until you see the gazebo..." We thought it was a strange way of giving directions, but we obeyed. We got on the street she mentioned and started following the yellow line. The street forked into other streets, other roads joined this street, but we just kept following the yellow line, until we were at the gazebo. It was the most efficient direction ever given to either of us.... "just follow the yellow line". So we got to he gazebo, got married, it was beautiful, I may or may not have teared up (you'll never know). We thanked her and of course, paid her and went on our way.
Since that day on a chilly March evening in 2016, Holly and I have taken so many road-trips with one of us navigating while the other drove. "Do I go straight or do I turn?" the driver would ask. "Just follow the yellow line" would be the reply from the navigator. And the driver would know exactly what the navigator meant. There would be no confusion about going left, or right, or keeping straight, which fork to take etc. We would look at each other and chuckle. So when we decided to start a blog about our travels, guess what we chose as our blog name...
